Harlequin, National Award and Festival of Theatre Art for Children

Russian Theatre Union established the Russian National Award in TYA (Theatre for young audience). Every year laureate of the Festival "Harlequin" in nomination "The best performance" is awarded with a grant for new production. The Festival program also includes the workshop for the directors working in TYA.

International Theatre Kingfestival

The Festival's focus is on myth as the unique genre of the world’s literature and transformation of mythology in national epos, fantastic stories, fantasies, fairy-tales. The Festival presents contemporary performing arts productions from Russia and Europe in two separate programs: for children and youth and for adults aiming to reveal new ways of bringing fantastic stories on stage in drama theatre and contemporary dance, puppet theatre, non-verbal and visual theatre.

Prague Quadrennial 2019

Theatre Marathon. Eight Theatre Forums in the Russian Regions

In the course of 2019 Russian Theatre Union will organise eight Theatre Forums, one in every region of the Russian Federation, with a common title "Russian Theatre in the XXI Century. New Perspective". Every Forum will gather over 200 theatre practitioners with the aim to work out common grounds, foster artistic creation, inspire and support young theatre artists, offer training opportunities, facilitate artistic collaboration and networking.

Results of the Season No.55, Annual Exhibition of Moscow Stage Design

Around 100 set designers, both renowned and emerging, will showcase their designs – models, sketches, costumes, puppets, installations – from premiers of the previous theatre season in theatres of Moscow, other Russian cities, and abroad.

Figurative Theatre Lab (FTL)

FTL is an annual workshop that explores contemporary tools of puppeteers. This year LAB masters are Tatyana Gordeeva (Russia), Duda Paiva (The Netherlands), Nicole Mossu (Belgium), Natasha Belova (Belgium).
In the course of the week the Lab participants will get acquainted with the working methods of masters. The workshops will end with public presentations.
Who can apply: puppetry theatre actors, directors, designers and professionals of other performing arts disciplines interested in visual theatre, where artists combine work with traditional puppets and objects, movement and visual imagery.

ARTMIGRATION, Forum and Festival

Young directors recently graduated from Moscow theatre schools whose performances are in repertoire of Russian theatres beyond Moscow and Saint Petersburg are the heroes of this Festival. The Forum offers a communication platform for creative youth of different performing arts disciplines and also an opportunity to participate in seminars, presentations, discussions, and showcases.
Professionals aged under 35 from other cities can apply for accommodation coverage in Moscow.

Federation Theatre Festival

New theatre festival established as part of the Year of Theatre Programme will be held in Grozny, The Chechen Republic. The festival will present 14 shows by theatres performing in local ethnic languages. Founders of the Festival are the Russian Federation Ministry of Culture, Russian Theatre Union and the Government of the Chechen Republic.

Baltic House, International Theatre Festival

The BALTIC HOUSE International Theatre Festival is one of the most significant and prestigious theatre forums in Europe. Organized since 1991, in October. Teatr (The Theatre) Magazine

THE THEATRE (TEATR), the oldest of the existing Russian theatre magazines, is currently edited by Marina Davydova. There are three main sections of the magazine: On Stage (to represent all genres of theatre history including the genre of detailed review); Off Stage (to cover all kinds of the sociological aspects of drama that meet broad public response) and Beyond the Stage (to highlight the events from the standpoint of theatrical culturology). Above all the magazine has the section called Yellow Pages that carries all sorts of curious statistics, infograms and the results of various polls.

Theatre Directors On-the-Move - VI

Project by the Theatre Directors Guild that aims to connect young and talented theatre directors and theatre venues in the Russian regions. Each year by March 1 young directors can submit applications, which are reviewed by the board of experts of the Directors Guid. Provided with legal and information support, the winners will get a contract for full production in one on the regional theatres.

Travel Support Scheme for Regional Theatre Artists

Every year Russian Theatre Union awards more than 100 travel grants to Russian theatre professionals from different parts of Russia to attend professional theatre events in the country including The RTU Summer Theatre School, The Golden Mask, The Baltic House, The Harlequin, ArtMigration festivals and other important events in Russia.

The HIT OF THE SEASON – The Theatre Union of Russia Prize

This prize is one of the most celebrated Russian theatre awards, founded by the Theatre Union of Russia. The "Hit of the Season" ceremony is famous for its informal and humorous atmosphere. Its form is a sketch comedy where everything is allowed, hilarious gags, insolent parodies and witty boffos.

Artistic Internships Project

As part of this project young theatre directors receive an opportunity to intern with acclaimed theatre directors (Dmitriy Krymov, Maxim Didenko, Konstantin Bogomolov, Andrey Moguchiy, Boris Konstantinov, Kama Ginkas etc. are among them). During the internship young theatre artists will attend and get involved in the rehearsal process with the master. Internship duration is two weeks. RTU covers all travel expenses for participants coming from other cities of Russia.

Digital Theatre Words

Digital Theatre Words (DTW) is a global project undertaken by International Organization of Scenographers, Theatre Architects and Technicians (OISTAT), the goal of the project is to compile an Internet dictionary addressed to all theatre professionals: set designers, stage architects, managers, costume designers, light designers, sound specialists, technicians, etc.

The program of support for Russian Theatre in foreign countries

The program includes theatre labs and workshops led by artists and trainers from the leading Russian Theatre Schools. In 2019 sixteen theatres from 9 countries will host workshops by Russian Theatre Schools' trainers and four labs for theatre directors will take place in Kazakhstan, Estoniana and Lithuania. As a result of the previous year director's labs three directors will make productions in the Russian theatres of Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan.

Laboratory 40+

The project is designed for established actors with over 15 years of professional experience. The workshop gives an opportunity to have professional conversation with colleagues, reflect on their careers and artistic practices and try out new strategies. The workshop will result in the performance about actors. In the course of the lab various known in theatre history methods will be tried out (i.e. Mikhail Chekhov, Nikolay Demidov theatre methods, for instance). The final performance will be shown at the ARTMIGRATION festival in September 2019.
